CINEMAGIC 'ON THE PULSE’ SHORT FILM FESTIVAL (MARCH ’23) 

The 5th Cinemagic ON THE PULSE Festival, celebrating the short film genre, is funded by the Department for Communities through Northern Ireland Screen, and it will present a programme of unmissable films for children, families, schools, young adults and young filmmakers, as well as  jury programme and a Talent Lab Masterclass series for aspiring film, television and media creators supported by Belfast Harbour through the Arts & Business NI Investment Programme.

The film programme offers a cinematic window to the world presenting a diverse range of storytelling, celebrating universal stories of youth and youth perspectives. Festival themes will include stories of inclusivity, the world today, young protagonists overcoming challenges, and stories of celebration and heart warming tales. 

Workshop highlights hosted by successful NI and ROI film talent include writing, producing, music video, locations, commissioning, presenting and production design. Talent supporting the festival includes BAFTA winning and Oscar nominated producer Brian J. Falconer, who produced the third and final season of hit Channel 4 comedy Derry Girls! There will be a live audience recording of the Girls on Film Podcast with special actress Sophia Myles, best known for Doctor WhoSpooksTransformers: Age of Extinction, and Outlander, as well as writers and performers Sally Phillips and Ronni Ancona.

Get involved with teen and family film screenings in Queen’s Film Theatre, Ulster Museum and Odeon Cinemas Classic family favourites include The Gruffalo and Gruffalo’s Child, The Smeds and The Smoos, The Highway Rat & Room on The Broom! On The Pulse will also visit towns around Northern Ireland with Cinemagic’s Young Audiences Supporting Foodbanks Initiative. The ticket price for this is replaced by foodbank donations on the day. The film programme and young jury strands are supported by the BFI FAN Film Exhibition Fund, awarding funds from National Lottery.'
